3 1114(b)(1)(C) Requirement: Instruction by highly qualified teachers
Evidence: The plan describes efforts to retain highly qualified staff to better meet the individual needs of all students.
The School Board and Administration are dedicated in their efforts to attract and retain highly qualified staff that meets the unique needs of the students of our school. A portion of the budget ($2,000) is set aside each year to allow members of the administration to travel to job fairs throughout the state. New and open positions are advertised through state and local newspapers as well as the Nebraska Department of Education website. The district has a 2005-2006 base salary of $28,500 and allows all years of experience of newly hired teachers to be counted for initial placement on the salary schedule. The district also provides insurance coverage through Blue Cross/Blue Shield and reimburses the entire amount of the deductible. |
3.1 Teachers are endorsed in the area of their assignment and certified to meet Nebraska's Rule 10 requirements. Student needs are examined in relationship to qualifications of staff and used in placing appropriate staff in high needs schools.

Included in this section are the assignments and of all certificated staff and their areas of endorsement. It also includes years of experience at Umonhon Nation Public School. Several teachers have brought in many years of experience in education when they were initially hired. A listing of all professional development can be found in section 5.1 of this document. That professional development is specifically designed to help new and veteran staff meet the needs of the students our school serves. |
3.2 Paraprofessionals meet the NCLB requirements of either 48 credit hours from an accredited college, an associate degree from an accredited college, or have passed one of the approved state assessments. Paraprofessionals meet the NCLB requirements and are included in professional development provided to other staff members. They are provided ongoing training specifically designed for paraprofessionals.

All our paraprofessionals have either met the requirements of NCLB or are working to meeting the requirements. Included is the homepage for the website Project Para which is a Paraeducator Self Study Program that four of our paraprofessionals are working on. |
