"Kindergarten Curriculum"
Our Kindergarten Language Arts, Writing and Math curriculum is based on the Nebraska Standards that were adopted by the Nebraska State Board.

Language Arts Identifies front, back, title and title page of a book States the role of the author and illustrator Demonstrates top to bottom, left to right progression Distinguishes letters from words and words from sentences Identifies all upper and lower case letters States the correct letter sound for each letter Demonstrates knowledge of beginning sounds in words Blends CVC sounds to make words Reads one syllable and common sight words Reads color words Reads number words one through ten Identifies and generates rhyming words Makes predications Demonstrates comprehension of stories by orally retelling the story or answering questions Identifies characters and setting of a story Identifies if a story is real or fantasy Recites nursery rhymes and poems Reads simple phonetic or leveled readers independently Understands and follows one and two step spoken directions
Writing Prints "on line" Prints first and last names correctly Prints alphabet legibly Prints left to right and from top to bottom Writes some simple CVC words phonetically Uses other sources within the classroom to spell unknown words Uses conventions when writing
Math Demonstrates one to one correspondence Sorts and classifies objects Identifies, extends and creates patterns Identifies, draws and describes basic shapes Recognizes and writes numbers 0 - 100 Counts forward by 1's, 5's and 10's to 100 Counts forward by 2's to 20 Counts backward from 10 Identifies ordinal positions of 1st, 2nd and 3rd Demonstrates an understanding of spatial relationships Counts sets and labels with the correct numeral (0 - 20) Tells time to the hour Orally states the days of the week, months and seasons Measures length with a variety of non-standard measurements Uses objects to solve simple addition problems Uses objects to solve simple subtraction problems
Social and Work Habits Puts forth best effort in work Takes care of school materials Uses self-control to follow school rules Works independently Completes work in a reasonable amount of time Follows directions Listens attentively Stays on task Willingly participates in activities Respects others and their property Plays well with others
Fine Motor Skills Holds scissors and pencils correctly Cuts on lines Traces shapes using a stencil Colors neatly within the lines
