Hi! My name is Laura Straight and I am the Kindergarten teacher for Winside Public Schools. I have a BAE in both Elementary Education and Special Education from Wayne State College. I have a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Doane College. My education doesn't stop there. I love attending seminars and conferences that pertain to current research on teaching young children. I love learning new ways to help children be their best. I have been teaching since 1985. I started out in the area of Special Education. I worked for Educational Service Unit One as a traveling K-8 Resource Teacher and for a while I was the K-6 Resource Teacher here in Winside. I have been teaching Kindergarten in Winside since 1996 and I must say ... I LOVE KINDERGARTEN!
I have a wonderful family. My husband Rick works in Wayne where we reside our two dogs Callie and Sady. Both of our families are from Wayne so that has always been a blessing for us as we raised our two kids. Our son Kyle was tragically killed in a car accident in November of 2002. He was 15 years old and very active in sports. Our daughter Katie is married. Her husband, David, is currently serving in Iraq with the National Guard. They have blessed my husband and I with a beautiful granddaughter.
I feel my role as a Kindergarten teacher is to help children and their parents transition from learning at home to learning at school. It is my goal to provide a positive and safe environment for children to learn and explore. It is also my wish to keep an open communication link between home and school and what a better way than through our website. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments just click on the link to e-mail me here at school. Stop by our website and check in often to see what happens in the wonderful world of Kindergarten!
