Goldenrod

There was one name that I could find it was used by the Omaha-Ponca Tribe and it was "Zha-sage-zi" which means hard yellow corn. There were no other names that were found for this plant.


Description

The goldenrrod plant can grow 3 to 7 feet tall. It has small yellow flowers at the end of the stems. The leaves of the goldenrod alternate and are toothed with very smooth edges. They usually grew in large clusters between August and September. There are at least 130 species of Goldenrod and they can be found all around the world.

Habitat

It could be found in the United States as while as Europe, Asia, and South America. It can grow in dry open fields as well as woody areas. They grow in large groups. On the Omaha reservation goldenrod can be found on roadsides as well as large fields.
