Ground Cherry


Native American Names

The Omaha name for Ground Cherry is "Pe igatush" The name has reference to the use by children of the inflated persistent calices which they pop on the forehead in play. Other Native American names for Ground Cherry are "Nikakitspak" (Pawnee) "nikako" meaning "forehead" and "kitspak" meaning "to pop"

Discription 

It is Forb like, flowers from May through October. The life span is perennial and is introduced from South America. It almost looks like poison ivy. it's a small plant usaully the height between 1-3 feet, grows in most soil types but does very well in poor soils.
