Dakota Oyate Challenge 2008
2008 Dakota Oyate Challenge Basketball Tournament
The Chiefs and Lady Chiefs are the defending champions of the Dakota Oyate Challenge. This year's tournament will be held Thursday through Saturday January 24-26, 2008 at the Huron (SD) Arena. Eight team brackets will pit many of this year's best Native school basketball teams.
The teams from Omaha Nation will face tough competition as they hope to repeat their success from 2007. The Chiefs are off to another good start with eight wins this season. The Lady Chiefs lost four seniors from the 2007 team, but have won their last two games. Both teams seem to be gaining momentum entering the tournament.
 
Lady Chiefs finish as Runner-ups in 2008 girls tournament. Lose to Takini 44-32 in the finals.
Chiefs finish as Champions in 2008 boys tournament. Defeat Crazy Horse in the finals 70-52.
Brackets, Pairings and Results
Thursday: Omaha Nation Boys and Girls advance to the semifinals with wins on Thursday!
Friday: Lady Chiefs advance to the FINALS with a 42-29 win over Tiospa Zina in the semifinals. Boys advance to the FINALS with a 62-58 win over Tiospa Zina.
Saturday: Girls play in the FINALS at 6:30 PM against Takini. Boys play in the FINALS at 8:00 pm against Crazy Horse.

Umonhon Nation Public School is a member of the Dakota Oyate Challenge Board. As a Board member, the Chiefs and Lady Chiefs are proud to honor a Service Award Recipient. This year's recipient is Winona Caramony.
