Word Recall: Boys vs. Girls

ABSTRACT
The purpose of my experiment was to see which sex, male or female, was able to recall the most words in a 15 second trial.

Ten cards each containing a word were given to 20 boys and 20 girls. They were allowed 15 seconds to look at the words and then given a minute to repeat as many of the words as they could recall. The data was then recorded.

The conclusion was the girls were able to recall the most words one minute.

Purpose
The purpose of my experiment was to see which sex could recall the most words in a 15-second trial.

Hypothesis
My hypothesis was that the boys would be able to identify the most words in the time allowed.

Materials and Procedure
10 cards with a word on each
1 chart
A watch with a second hand
Data sheet

20 boys and 20 girls were given 10 cards with one word printed on each card. They were given 15 seconds to look at the cards. After 15 seconds, they were asked to recall as many of the words as possible within a 1 minute limit. The number of words were recorded and the average for each group was figured.

Results
The results were that the boys averaged 6.2 words in 1 minute and the girls averaged 7.2 words in 1 minute.

Conclusion
My hypothesis was incorrect. The girls were able to recall more words in the time allowed than the boys.
