Computer Education: Internet Safety Policy

Umonhon Nation School and ESU #1 shall endeavor to make available to staff and students the Internet system and telecomputing in general. The primary purpose of the Internet system is to enhance research, education and communication. Internet users will be able to conduct informational searches, download software, and exchange mail throughout the world.

This system and equipment is not be be used for commercial purposes, illegal activities of any nature, transmission of copyrighted materials or software, inaccurate or objectionable materials, child pornography, visual depictions harmful to minors, obscene, pornographic, or profane materials. Any violation of this policy will result in consequences up to and including: loss of use privileges and/or involvement of law enforcement and judicial action.

ESU #1 will provide filtering in accordance with federal legislation which Umonhon Nation Public School will use, but such filtering is not a guarantee of accessibility of only acceptable material. The Superintendent of Schools may request the unblocking of specific machines for legitimate research purposes. Local staff and administrators are soley responsible for any and all activities on their computer and staff members are responsible for the appropriate use of computers under their supervision used by their students in classrooms, labs and libraries.
